The inspiration and subject matter for much of Steve's work is the rural/agricultural landscape and environment. Derbyshire is made up of varied landscape, including lush green agricultural land, windswept moorland, and sweeping dales and valleys. Each of these landscapes holds a different appeal. In his landscape paintings, Steve uses acrylic paint on canvas or paper to build up a highly textured surface, applying layer after layer until the work is resolved. Steve has exhibited widely in the region, and held a solo show at Derby Museum and Art Gallery. He was shortlisted for the Vickers Award 2003/2004.
